Prayer Meetings – Sylvanus Godspower

Introduction

Prayer meetings are the gatherings of believers purposely to seek the Lord in prayer. Besides the prayers of an individual, there is the need for corporate prayers. In Matthew 26:41, Jesus says, “We should watch and pray that we may not enter into temptation.” Jesus commanded every believer to remain steadfast in the ministry of prayer. Praying is our duty as believers. Hence, the saints must learn to pray individually every time at every place. Then in Matthew 18:19-20, Jesus says, “Again, truly I say to you that if two of you are in harmony on earth concerning any matter for which they ask, it will be done for them from My Father who is in the heavens. For where there are two or three gathered in My name, there am I in their midst”. The prayer meetings of believers are initiated by our Lord Jesus. We must meet purposely to pray and enjoy the corporate grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible illustrates several instances of the prayer meetings of God’s people and how God released His grace upon them in those meetings. Of course, an individual’s prayer cannot release some levels of grace that corporate prayer releases. I do not mean that the Lord does not listen to individuals and I do not underrate the prayers of an individual.

As I mentioned, prayer meetings are initiated by our Lord Jesus. When we read the Bible thoroughly, we will come across the different kinds of prayer meetings of believers. These are: the prayer meetings of the church, household prayer meetings, prayer team meetings, and the prayer meetings of co-workers. Let us consider the matter of each of the prayer meetings in each Chapter.
